The Lion Dance Troupe would like to thank the following people and organizations for contributing funding and support to help maintain the team.
- Dean Boswell
- Eric Beatty
- Johns Hopkins Alumni Association
The problem with having so many people to thank is that you run the risk of missing someone. I'll try to avoid that problem, but that means this will be a very long list of people, so please bear with me.
Although this will go in no particular order, probably the person JHU Lion Dance owes the most to is our founding president, Audrie Lin. She started the group in the fall of 2003 by driving all the way from Michigan while sharing the back seat with a 15 year old lion head. It was her passion and determination that created a great foundation for the club to grow. I remember the countless late nights and meetings we had to establish the club and just to keep things running. I offer my heartfelt thanks to Audrie for all the work and sacrifice she put into the group. I know everyone who has ever worked with her can say the same thing. Thanks Audrie.
The next person I would like to thank is Suzie Wong. She was our first faculty supporter and has always given us help and show referrals. Without her help, we wouldn't be known at all, because she was the one who got us in the CultureFest show and helped us land our first wedding gig.
The CSC staff, in particular Dag, Mrs. Mac, Allison Leung, and Cheng Xi for always helping us whenever we needed it. They were always flexible with our requests and on top of that, great people to work with.
Eric Beatty has always been very accommodating with getting us rooms for practice. I have to especially thank him for handling my mostly late room requests!
The various organizations at JHU who have invited us to perform: CSA, IAC, Peace by Peace, Cooking 4 Love, Relay for Life, and CSSA. Without your patronage, we would not have anything to practice for.
Thanks to various outside organizations, including Towson University, UMBC, George Washington University, Princeton University, and Howard County Recreation and Parks, for providing us a reason to get off campus.
Thanks to our fellow lion dancers from Columbia University and from East Rising Lion Dance Troupe, for giving us advice, hooking us up with show referrals, and being all-around nice people.
Finally, I want to thank everyone who was part of lion dance. Whether you only came for one practice, or made it through the long haul, I truly appreciate the effort you put in. Thanks for making lion dance a great experience for me.
-Darren Kaw, Class of 2006, former President and Vice-President
