Student Health & Wellness Center (SH&WC)
Clinic Physicians - All of the JHU SH&WC physicians are board certified in one or more specialties including: pediatrics, adolescent medicine, and family practice. The SH&WC also servies as a clinical rotation site for residents from the Johns Hopkins Hospital Department of Adolescent Medicine. Our physicians serve as preceptors for these residents.
Dr. Ann Bruner, MD
Dr. Nancy Compton, MD
Dr. Compton joined the staff of the SH&WC in November, 2007. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine and is a board-certified family practitioner. She has delivered primary care to families for 23 years, most recently at Fort Meade, Maryland. Dr. Compton and her husband have two young adult children and reside in Ellicott City, Maryland.
Dr. Alain Jofffe, MD, MPH, FAAP
Director, Student Health & Wellness Center
Bonjour! Dr. Joffe graduated from Columbia College and received his medical degree from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). Before joining the faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1981, he completed a Masters in Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health. He is currently an associate professor of pediatrics with a joint appointment in the Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Joffe's board-certifications are in pediatrics and adolescent medicine. He is the founder of the Adolescent Medicine program at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and has published over 100 research articles, reviews, and book chapters pertaining to adolescent, young adult, and college health. From 1981 until 1997, Dr. Joffe served as part-time medical director of the Student Health and Wellness Center untill 2001 when he returned as full-time director.

Dr. Kathy Linne von Berg, MD
Kathy G. Linne von Berg, is a board certified family physician. She graduated from the University of Virginia for her undergraduate degree and from the Medical College of Virginia for her M.D. Prior to joining the staff of the JHU SH&WC, she worked in private practice and for the federal government. She currently coordinates all of the emergency workshop training at the SH&WC.

Dr. Yvonne Mark, MD, MMS
Yvonne Mark, M.D., M.M.S. is a board-certified family physician. Dr. Mark graduated from Brown University and attended the eight-year Program in Liberal Medical Education. She graduated from the Brown University School of Medicine. She also received a Masters of Medical Science degree from Brown for her thesis work at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute - NIH Research Scholars Program. Before joining the JHU Student Health & Wellness Center staff as a clinic physician, Dr. Mark worked in New York City as the medical director of the F.I.T. Health Services and as a family physician in a private practice. Dr. Mark is nationally involved with the American College Health Association (ACHA) as the American Academy of Family Physicians advisor to the Continuing Medical Education subcommittee of the ACHA Program Planning Committee. She is the Student Health & Wellness Center’s accreditation coordinator.

Nurse Practitioners - What are nurse practitioners? A nurse practitioner is a register nurse (RN) who has advanced education and clinical training and provides comprehensive health care to people of all ages in collaboration with other health care providers. They can obtain medical histories and perform complete physical examinations, as well as prescribe and recommend medications and other treatments. In addition to direct patient care, many nurse practitioners are also actively involved in education, research and legislative activities to promote quality health care. Allegra Hamman, CRNP-Family
Allegra Hamman is a certified, registered nurse practitioner and has worked at the Student Health and Wellness Center since 1995. She previously worked in college health at the University of Maryland and at Columbia University in New York City. Allegra trained as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Yale University. She graduated from Yale with a M.S. in Nursing in 1985. Ms. Hamman worked diligently to bring massage therapy to the Homewood Campus community. Gail McLean, CRNP-Adult
Gail has worked in a college health setting since 1989. She received her BSN from the University of Virginia and her MSN from the University of Maryland. Previously, Gail worked at Loyola College and Georgetown University. She is a member of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland. Cornelia (Lia) E. Pappas, CRNP-Adult
Lia received her BSN from Texas Women's University and her MSN from Boston University. She has been practicing as an adult nurse practitioner since 1987. Lia is a member of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland and Sigma Theta Tau Association.

Mary B. Pearre, CRNP-Adult
Mary is a native Baltimorean. She received her BSN from the University of Pennsylvania and an MSN from the University of Maryland. She has worked in college health for 19 years. Mary is a member of the American College of Nurse Practitioners, the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland, the American Nurse's Association and the Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorders Association.

Linda J. Rhoades, CRNP-Adult
Linda received her BSN as well as her Nurse Practitioner Certification from the University of Maryland. She also has an MS in Applied Behavioral Science from the Johns Hopkins University. Linda has been a nurse practitioner for over 20 years. In 1983, she transferred to the Student Health & Wellness Center from Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 1994, she became the SH&WC Nurse Manager. Linda is a member of the American Nurses Association, the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland and the Sigma Theta Tau Association.

Sharon Smith, CRNP- Adult & Women's Health, MS
Sharon is an adult and women's health nurse practitioner. She received her BSN and MSN from the University of Maryalnd. She worked at GBMC (Greater Baltimore Medical Center), University of Maryland Medical Center, Carroll County General Hospital and has been a clinical nursing instructor at Catonsville Community College. Sharon is a member of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland, the national Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women's Health and Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.
Kathy Slone, CNM
Kathy received her BSN from Indiana University and her MSN from Yale University. From 1973-1984, she was an instructor and associate professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Since 1984, she has been in private practice and has provided women's health services at the SH&WC on a part-time basis on Mondays, Wednesday, Thursdays. During the academic year, she also has hours on Friday afternoons. Her special interests are normal OB-GYN, sub-specializing in Adolescent OB-GYN. Kathy's hobbies include gardening and horses (dressage).

Stacey Berman, RN
Stacey joined the SH&WC staff in August 2005. She received her nursing degree from Towson University. Coming from North Carolina, she is an avid ACC football and basketball fan. Stacey enjoys a very active life complete with three children, a 110 lb. lab and a great husband!

Tiffany Byrd, CMA
Heidi Dorsey, CMA
Heidi is a certified medical assistant who graduated from the Medix School in Towson, MD. She is currently attending Harford Community College working toward a degree in nursing.
Christina Richards, CMA
Christina graduated in 2003 from the Medix School in Towson, MD with specialties in Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy. She currently is a member of the AAMA and holds a license in phlebotomy from I.A.P.S. Christina has a background in Gynecology, Gastroenterology and Hematology/Oncology. She also has worked in the health care field for over five years with physically disabled adults and children. She has one son and enjoys spending leisure time walking in the park.
