About Us
The purpose of the Johns Hopkins University Kung Fu Club is to train Hopkins students and faculty in the art of Kung Fu, primarily as a means of self-defense and secondly as an art. Since the essential elements can be utilized in a short amount of time, we further believe it is an ideal self-defense system to be taught in the university setting.
The JHU Kung Fu Club was started by Dr. Shin Lin (chair of the JHU Biophysics dept.) and Sifu John Clayton in 1988. Sifu Clayton trained for nine years under Master Howard Wong, and for five years under William Cheung, the current Grandmaster of the World Wing Chun Kung Fu Association. Sifu Clayton has had extensive experience with full and hard contact Kung Fu and Karate tournaments and has been the number one professional point tournament Wing Chun fighter in the United States.
