[K17 5']-GFP reporter transgenic embryo
This mouse embryo is transgenic for a DNA construct consisting of the mouse K17 gene promoter driving the expression of green fluorescent protein (GFP), used here as a reporter. GFP expression is strongest in placodes, seen here as GFP-positive dots covering the embryo. These placodes are precursors for hair follicles and all other forms of epithelial appendages.
